One of the contenders for best barbecue in the DC area, Dixie Bones draws customers from far and wide. The menu includes pork, beef and catfish sandwiches and platters of pork, chicken, beef, catfish and rib racks with assorted sides. We recommend the ribs with a side of greens and Muddy Spuds (a baked potato that's been chopped into small pieces and seasoned with barbecue sauce). Owner Nelson Head proudly asserts that his meat is hickory-smoked over logs for 12 to 14 hours. The cooks are busy, because they also make all the pies and concoct their own barbecue sauce that runs to mild rather than hot. Save room for pie. Decor? Patriotic and all things pig.

Brisket Needs Improvement
By BGJim on 07/25/2008
The brisket is dry and flavorless. They use a grade that's far too lean to produce the magnificent flavor and texture of slow smoked brisket. Somebody there should travel to Louis Mueller's in Taylor, Texas, for a little schooling on how to turn the humble brisket into a tasty delight. Otherwide, the place is great, especially the side dishes, often overlooked in barbecue restaurants, where meat rules.

Kinda "commercial" in it's approach. Mass market.
