Rate and Write a Review Tucked away in the center of a city block, the former carriage house known as the Green Lantern is a bar that has welcomed gay patrons since the 1920s. The establishment has nice touches that give the place character. There is still a large stable door at the entrance and antique lanterns hanging here and there. The room is well lit and there are cozy nooks in which to sit that are framed by curtains. A large bar takes up the center of the room and patrons line up around it, making for many comfortable vantage points to view the rest of the room. The bar tends to draw a wide range of mature men, bears and African Americans, who are there to relax and enjoy a drink. From Monday to Saturday happy hour starts at 4PM and on Sunday it's at 1PM. With its downtown location and drink specials every evening of the week the Green Lantern is an ideal spot for sipping. When the Green Lanterns edgier upstairs neighbor the Tool Shed is open the scene usually heats up. -- Nick Wafle
