Rate and Write a Review Development around the intersection of 14th and P Streets near Logan Circle has progressed at a furious pace and Halo is a fortunate by-product. This new lounge on P Street occupies the upstairs and, more recently, the downstairs of what used to be Empire Video. It's sandwiched between two nouveau-loft buildings directly across from Whole Foods. There is subtle indication of an entrance, with only a small steel sign by the door. Also keep your eyes peeled for two mod steel ashtrays on the sidewalk near the door (yes, Halo is smoke-free). Heading upstairs one enters an elegant and otherworldly space. Halo's upper level consists of a long rectangular white room with a half-barrel vault ceiling. On both levels undulating banquettes line the walls. Subtle colored lighting illuminates the space with a soft glow and the down-tempo music is a refreshing change from the often brassy house that blares in many gay establishments. The drinks here are as carefully orchestrated as the space. Bowls of fresh fruit sit behind the bar. The fruit serves as garnishes to the multitude of flavored martinis and mojitos available on the drink menu. The tiny ice pellets used in the drinks are sublime, and during happy hours it's nice to note that your second tasty drink is on the house. What's Next: After cocktails have a Thai dinner at Rice or snack on some tapas and paella at Mar De Plata.
