Zengo seems to be a readymade hotspot. Soaring, sexy, Adamstein and Demetriou-designed space? Check. Location in the restaurant hot zone near the MCI Center? Yep. Celebrity investor? They've got Placido Domingo. Add to that nationally recognized Mexican chef and owner Richard Sandoval, and Citronelle-trained chef de cuisine Alan Yu, and you've got a place people are definitely talking about. At Zengo, which is part serious restaurant, part sleek lounge, the cocktails are pricey and the food is trendy Latin-Asian. Chipotles and jalepenos show up in sushi rolls, while yuzu and wasabi make their way into ceviches and tiraditos. There are sharable antojidos, with tacos laden with pickled ginger and empanadas stuffed with Thai chicken. Larger plates include rack of lamb with hoisin-adobo sauce; grilled mahi-mahi with curried slaw; and charred black cod drizzled with chipotle-miso. Look out for a more casual lunch menu, and daytime takeout window. The cocktail menu is one place where Zengo keeps its Latin and Asian interests smartly separate (Wasabi-spiked mojitos? Ouch. Not a good look). Ride out the night with a classic caipirinha or a yuzu-sake cooler.

O.. M.. God

Loves it! :) The Food: This meal was one of THE most intense meals I've eaten. The Feel: The decor was outstanding, the customer service was top notch, and the location was divine. I invited friends from NYC to go with me to Zengo and we all just loved it! Zengo is definitely a "MUST eat there" place if there is one in DC. Thank you Zengo for a great dinner. I will be back and I will recommend your restaurant to anyone who asks about great restaurants in DC. Mmmmm.. churros. :)

From the moment I stepped into the door I loved the place. The host(s), were all friendly and proffessional for such a stylish venue. Great cocktails and awesome food. (MUST TRY THE "KIMONO KISS" COCKTAIL!!). Overall, great food, great service, chic, hip, great atmosphere, a perfect restaurant for a two day drip to the city. Would definitely return and recommend!

A WONDERFUL SURPRISE
By sarahlyndell on 10/03/2006
When they opened near where I work in Chinatown, I was very excited to see a new place to eat lunch. When I first saw the menu, I was very skeptical. The idea of Latin-Asian didn't sound that appealing. I WAS WRONG! It is great! I love almost everything on the menu. The sushi is unbelievable. I never use the soy sauce because they are so good without it. The clay pot chicken gives a great taste of fall. If you want to try something different, try the Arepas de Puerco. It gives a taste of hoisin pulled pork on a cornmeal cake with an avocoda mixture with just a bite of jalapeno. The food is not the only good thing going on. The service is impeccable. I like to sit next to the kitchen and watch everyone turn out all the great dishes. Chef Bartlett makes sure each plate is up to perfection. The sushi chef, pastry chef, sous chefs and everyone working there works hard to make sure dishes and service is at the best. The hosts and bartenders also make your experience is at its best. In other words, I like this place....a lot! It makes me think twice about trying new things!

Great food! Great mojitos!
By jferj2k1 on 05/17/2006
I love the idea of having a mojito with my sushi. We stepped in with an impromptu birthday party (after being dissed at Indebleu...blah) and were welcomed with open arms! The food was great - calamari, sushi, pulled pork, spring rolls...and the mojitos were awesome - you have to try the pineapple mojito. It was wonderful!
