18th Street Lounge   

This is my favorite place to go in DC. Its classy enough to feel like you've moved on from the days of frat parties and cheeks to cheeks bars that serve watered down beer. The DJ on the 2nd floor is great and its not too loud, so its easy to chat with the guy wearing a crisp shirt and tie who just bought you a mid-range in price drink. As a jazz fan the live jazz band upstairs is great. Nice and small, intimate. Yes at times this bar can feel a little stuffy, and a few snobby people find their way in... but hey we're in DC. Everyone you meet knows someone in the White House, and they're ready to drop a name. I've never had a problem getting in, I'm a girl though. A $10 cover is nothing compared to the $100 I'd have to grease the bouncers in Vegas where I live now. 18th Street Lounge is great!

I went for a happy hour and they did not even have food there. I don't like the way it is hidden away so people have a hard time finding it. I think it's overpriced for what it is.

I had visitors from Bulgaria visit recently and we tried 2 nights in a row to enter 18th Street Lounge. One of my friends had read about 18th Street on the internet and was so excited about being there, he could'nt leave the USA without visiting he said.. However, not to be, on the first night, one person had snickers on, so no admission..That's all we were told as to why we could not enter. On the 2nd night, we all had nice polished shoes, however, we didn't have a girl with us. "Too many guys inside" we were told. Was it that my frinds were from Bulgaria? Were we thought to be Gay? No matter the answer, this bar discriminates. Are blacks next?

It sucks. They won't let me in no matter what I do. Very rude bouncers. if you don't have a girl with you, you better forget going there
