Too expensive for the poor preparation and service...
By LedSophocles on 06/26/2009
We visited Crisfield's for its storied reputation and were not pleased. Though it was disappointing that they didn't have oyster stew in the summer season (my dad traveled all the way from GA to try some), it was verging on insulting that our waitress informed us of this fact as if we should have known better and showed no sympathy or promptness with a reasonable alternative. I can accept that a place might have course service and grimy ambiance if the food makes up for it, but it didn't; not even close. My father had the fried sampler and every piece of food was fried so thickly as to taste uniformly the same, often with very little resemblance to any recognizable form of sea food. My wife had the lobster (a $28 entree) that was overcooked, tough, and steeped in butter. My mom did not care for her shrimp sandwich (too much mayo). And I, too, had the Norfolk shrimp and crab with shrimp that were overcooked and tough. I am no expert chef by any measure, but even I don't cook the Hades out of shrimp, leaving them as gummy as wads of beef fat. The applesauce, we all agreed, was the only facet of the meal that didn't fall short of expectation. If Crisfield's were a cheap, strap-on-the-feedbag-and-chow-down kind of restaurant, it might be o.k., but for a $100 meal for four, it was a terrible disappointment. We will not be back, even if their prices should be cut in half. There are dozens of places in DC with much better seafood and entrees ranging from $15-$20. Heck, Mama Lucia's, just down E West Hwy has much better dishes--and they don't serve grocery-store grade hamburger buns as their "bread course".

Overated food + awful service

We just got back from the famous Crisfield's in Silver Spring, MD and were both sorely disappointed! We were really looking forward to the meal, but the oysters were bad, the service was among the worst I've had, and there was nothing so special about the "Crisfield Special". I've had better food and service at a cheap fish camp.

changin of the guard.....
By cgar6454 on 01/08/2007
Over the past couple of years i've noticed the the seafood is not the same top quality seafood that has been served in the past.. it's as if the restaurant is tring to save money, but than again raise the prices...I have stopped going in there because of that reason....The original owner's took pride in what they sold there customers..the changing of the guards sounds correct..they sell old seafood at fresh seafood prices....I could always tell when seafood is fresh, and crisfields seafood is not fresh at all.....I blame the new owners..stop being cheap and bring crisfields back to where it used to be........................................................................

Crisfields on georgia was alright, however, people talk about how good there crab cakes are, I have tasted much better crab cakes than crisfield's. It was not impressed. I heard many stories about the colesville road crisfield's. I heard that one was good, but then it just changed. Try Bay N Surf in Laurel, delcious cream of crab soup and crab cakes
