Houdini The Waiter
By funkhouse9 on 02/25/2004
Our waiter must have been a magician because he kept disappearing! First, the host (manager?) could not find my reservation on the list for over 5 minutes. So I had to wait, fine, whatever. We got seated and after several minutes, the waiter arrived. He was fine until just before our entrees arrived when he brought us the first refill, then he was gone. He stopped to check on us just before we finished our entrees (almost 30 minutes later) to see if everything was ok. We asked for refills and he vanished. 30 minutes later, the manager brings us refills. 15 minutes later the waiter comes back and asks if we want our check. We ask for a desert menu and he disappears. 20 minutes later he comes back with it. After 20 minutes of nothing we decide to just leave, but it was 10 more minutes before we could get his attention to ask for the check (he never did ask for our desert order). 15 minutes later the check arrives and we give him a credit card immediately. Still, it was 15 minutes before he returned with the reciept. It was only at this point that there was any apology for our waiting. We told a manager how long we waited, but there was no apology from him. It was very busy, but there was absolutely no excuse for the service we got. Also, the other tables around us seemed almost as unhappy. People were going to the bar to get their own drinks and some tables had to ask for someone to wait on them. The food was decent. The beef tenderloin was okay and the shrimp was nothing too special. Neither of us cared for the squash bisque soup. It definately goes down as the biggest bomb of a Valentine's Day I've ever had. I would not recommend going to Sequoia, especially on a busy holiday and I definately would not go back again.

Astoundingly Bad Service
By kcarpi1 on 04/22/2004
Took clients there last evening because of the impressive views. After much confusion at the reservation desk we were finally seated. Once seated, we did not see a waiter for at least 10 minutes -- and then he returned 5 minutes later to take our order. After another 40 minutes we had neither seen him again nor received any part of our order -- not even the wine. After being at the table over an hour, we finally got up an left. Unfortunately, it appeared that no other tables were getting any better service. I dine out with clients in Washington at least once a week and have never received such astoundingly bad service, nor have I ever got up and left a restaurant before being served. There was not even anyone at the reption desk to complain to upon our departure. Avoid this place at all costs.

DON'T SIT OUTSIDE
By skyblewu on 05/05/2004
I have been to Sequoia's twice once I sat inside and tonight I sat outside on the deck. My dinner inside was wonderful great waiter and service. Portions of food are small for the price. Tonight I sat outside for dinner. Service was horrible I had to ask for water. Our table was never given a basket of bread like we had been given on the inside. It was as if i was at a totally different place sitting outside. Waitress hardly came around at all and we waited for over 20 min before we even got out drinks. I had a coke and in a plastic cup filled with ice. When I asked for more I was told I had to pay for another coke. I had to ask not to have ice since the coke was $2.00 I was not paying for the ice this time. Although the ice tea had refills. Between the planes going over head and the circling helicopter it was so noisy we could barely talk to each other. I regretted sitting outside so much and at one point almost decided to go inside. My mistake I should have sat inside. Inside you get better service and you get a bread basket. With the small dinner portions a bread basket would have been nice. Great view better enjoyed from the window inside.

Nice Atomsphphere
By dcdebk on 05/22/2004
Lousy food and service. The wait staff acts like you are doing them a favor by serving average food tha you pay for through the nose. Awesome view of the Potomac River and the Kennedy Center. If you go, eat beforehand and enjoy the scenery.
