Rate and Write a Review A cousin of Rockville's well-known and well-loved Il Pizzico restaurant, this downtown Italian eatery takes the same basic homespun meals and puts an upscale twist on them. Management has also gentrified the look, using plenty of stone and wood to construct a pretty and sophisticated dining and bar setting for such dishes as homemade rigatoni or filled ravioli as antipasti and grilled shrimp or salmon, a grilled veal paillard, or free-range chicken breast in a lemon-caper sauce for the main meal. The dinner menu amplifies what you'll find at lunch, with the addition of such showstoppers as gnocchi with Gorgonzola and tartufo. -- Alexandra Greeley

A Must for Any Food Enthusiast
My most memorable birthday celebration was spent at Spezie!! I have had many fabulous meals at top notch restaurants, but the exquisite food and service that I received last night at Spezie was the best I have ever had. The choices were excellent, the platting was tremendous, and the ambience makes this a must for any Washingtonian and DC visitor who wants to truly embrace amazing food. I highly recommend the venison because it was cooked to perfection and you must complete your dining experience with the amazing apple strudel. I can not say enough great things about Spezie!
If I could I would give Spezie 10 stars!!
Finally found a true Italian restaurant
I have been in Washington for many years and have eaten in many Italian restaurants. I have always loved the huge portions as well as the style of cooking, but I have never encountered more QUALITY on this Italian style of cooking at Spezie. What else can I say? This truly surpasses any Italian food I have ever had---and as close as you can get to the cooking in Italy----BRAVO!
Thank you!

We went there for a casual evening/dinner. Pretty, unpretentious restaurant, with warm, but pleasantly understated(!) service. Equally good choice for intimate evenings or for fun group events. Food was very fine. (The kitchen staff is turning out excellent fresh salads, always a good sign!) Entrees were very, very good and the prices were excellent. What a find! We experiment a lot in town and this one is a keeper!

Excellent service and food in a relaxed and atmospheric setting. Very reasonably priced for an upscale downtown restaurant. Excellent pastas and seafood as well as salads. Highly recommend
