Since 1956, Ernie Pandelos has been serving up super-fresh seafood and meats (all cut to order) in a casual fine-dining atmosphere. One of the most demanded dishes on the menu is Ernie's Hot Coquille: It's a hot seafood dish with shrimp, crabmeat and scallops that is so spectacular it has received accolades from Gourmet Magazine. This is fine dining, but it is not a cozy place. In fact, Ernie's can seat up to 1,500 people. There are six dining rooms, plus a banquet room, but noise is usually kept to a low rumble. If you're in the mood to paint the town red (or a nice shade of mauve, perhaps?) Ernie's also has live music on weekends with bands that play music from the '50s to the '90s. The highly trained and professional staff is a pleasure to deal with. It's no wonder that Ernie's is popular and often crowded. Make reservations, especially on weekends.

Amazed by people
By lilbaddevl1981 on 02/12/2008
I have lived in Wheeling for the last 15 years and have eaten at Ernie's maybe four times. I am not sure where the people who write the good reviews are used to eating, but trust me you DO NOT want to eat at Ernies. Granted forty years ago it used to be THE place to go. The problem is there has been nothing done to the place in all that time. It is very outdated. The staff is rude and the owner is ruder. They no longer make the food there, rather it is all premade from a vendor now. The place is dark and dingy and in serious need of a total makeover. If your looking for a nice restaurant, try one of the several others in the area because this is not the place.

Ernies Esquire

this used to be a great place to eat in the 70'S AND 80'S, but the quality of the food has slipped tremendously. We had a family party there last summer and only 2 out of 7 of the dinners were good. The other 5 looked terrible and tasted worse! It would take a miracle for us to go back there! It's too bad too, cause there isn't that many places in the Wheeling area to go for a Nice family gathering. sorry Ernie, but your place needs a new staff/cook!
