She served first as a World War II battleship. Now she serves as a memorial to the 10,000 North Carolinians of all military branches who gave their lives in World War II. Explore the ship to discover the trials and tribulations of life on the water and in the military. The Roll of Honor room lists the names of these 10,000 servicepeople. The real attraction, though, is the big gray monolith of a ship itself. There is an unbelievable amount of fully restored areas to which visitors have full access. Climbing in a gun turret and lying down on a bed in the sleeping quarters will give you a real glimpse into the lives of the sailors onboard. This spot is great for a family outing, as it is fun enough for the kids not to realize they are getting a big dose of history and fascinating to parents who can appreciate the wealth of historical information. -- Susan Waldes

I have visited the battleship twice and loved both times enough to go again - which hopefully will be soon! the tour is fabulous and well-planned out... the historical perspective is felt all through-out touring the ship -- and it's a lot of fun... even visiting the souvineer shop is time well-spent! battleship north carolina is a must-see, must-visit, must-do event for the entire family!
